36. [English] Which of the following is grammatically INCORRECT?
A. My hedgehog loves to sleep on the black cart when it has durian inside.
B. The blue rabbit likes to hang out with dragons; but it never gets eaten.
C. The dark secret was disclosed; however, no one seems to be surprised.
D. A snowflake was eaten by the penguin sitting on the iceburg.
"But" is a coordinate conjunction. When "but" is used to connect two independent clauses, a period(.) or comma(,) should be used.
e.g.
I am sleepy, but I still need to work. OR
I am sleepy. But I still need to work.
*Commonly used coordinate conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so - FANBOYS
"However" is generally used as conjunctive adverb. When using "however" to introduce a second independent clause, a period (.), or semicolon(;) should be used. Unless the conjunctive adverb has only one syllable, a comma(,) is needed after the conjunctive adverb.
i.e
The dark secret was disclosed; however, no one seems to be surprised.
The dark secret was disclosed. However, no one seems to be surprised.
"The" indicates the noun is definite. It just means I am referring to a specific penguin sitting on a particular iceberg.
Grammar 嘛, 我覺得punctuation 其實是最易犯錯的地方啦.....之後是article, preposition, parallelism, vocab之類
隨便找幾份journal 睇都可以搵到用錯comma, dash, colon 的地方
其實有沒有人發現到這題的主題是四幻的...? |
