past tense幾時用 past perfect幾時用

Usage 1
設B一直在現場; A剛剛到場; A想問Tom究竟在嗎.
Past tense
A: Was Tom there when you arrived?
B: Yes, but he left soon afterwards.我來到現場時Tom還在,但過了一會便走了.
Past perfect tense
A: Was Tom there when you arrived?
B: No, he had already left.在我未到場時Tom已經走了.
Usage 2 - 強調兩件事的先後次序
事件A: 關燈
事件B: 睡覺
1. Before I went to bed, I had switched off the light.
在睡覺前我已經關掉了燈.
2. After I had switched off the light, I went to bed.
在關掉了燈後我便睡覺.
