The main problem of this sentence is not 'many people think about this'. Instead, we should correct 'Besides' into 'Besides this'.
The new sentence would be: Besides this, many people think about this.

Although it seems strange, it is grammatically correct. Frankly, this sentence is still not well-written.

But for Usage, You can say Besides, ......

There should be something that goes after besides.
For examples:
1.Besides cricket, I enjoy watching football and basketball.
2.Besides her novels and poems, she published a number of short stories.

I got a mistake while I was doing the proof reading today and let's see if anyone of you finds out the mistake:
