標題: [M1]Applications of Differentiation
又是我問M1啦~

最近學完dy/dx(不知道是微分還是積分），總之就是「d」了它。

雖然技巧已經完全掌握，但在運用上出了一些問題..........

首先，D黎做乜？(唔系指搵個slope黎左乜）

其中一個課題系搵rate of change of XXX，

但系我唔知點解要d.......

例如：
The relationship between the number of traffic accidents N and the number of vehicles x are given by
                                N=(1/800)x^(3/4)
(i)If dN/dt and dx/dt are the rate of change of N and x with respect to time t(in year)respectively,express dN/dt in terms of dx/dt .

(ii)There are 50000 vehicles.If the number of vehicles increses by 2000 per year,find the rate of increase in the number of traffic accidents.(Give the answer correct to 3sig.fig.)

比較累贅的解說...抱歉


dy/dx 就是我們常說的微分,而積分(integration)就是微分的逆轉.
dy/dx的意思: 可以是指x-y coordinate plane 上 一個function y = f(x)曲線/直線上任何一點的斜率
實際上是指:  y相對於x的變率, 斜率的解釋是把剛才的概念圖象化

例1: y = 3x + 4. Find the slope of the line.
dy/dx = 3, 3為直線y = 3x + 4的斜率

這可以理解為:
在該直線任何一點上,若x的值增加/減少了k,y值變更就是x值變更的3倍

例2: y = f(x) = 3x^2 + 4x + 5. Find dy/dx at x = 0 and x = 1.

dy/dx = 6x + 4, 得出一個新的function

由於y = f(x)不是直線function, 那該斜率在 y = f(x)上任何一點均不同,Slope is not a constant.每一點的變率也自然地不同了


Rate of change (變率)就是說明某數量相對時間的變率, Rate of change of (sth) with respect to time.

也即是說 若x為一物體的位移(displacement), t為時間
dx/dt可理解為  位移x相對時間t的變率,那就是速度(velocity).

以往小學的速率題目,說的是 velocity = displacement / time (i.e. v = x/t)

但的確有許多情況,速度根本也能依時間變更的,不再是constant.

Rate of change的用處,透過一些變數(如球體的radius r, surface area A,volume V)之間數值上的關係,而應用微分的方法,把這些數值變率的關係找出(如 dr/dt, dA/dt, dV/dt).
r的數量直線上升/下降時, A和V 也不是依固定的速度上升/下降.
A的數量直線上升/下降時, r和V 也不是依固定的速度上升/下降.
V的數量直線上升/下降時, r和A 也不是依固定的速度上升/下降.

所以微分就是要找出這些變數變率之間的關係.

Solution:

i) 題目給了一條連繫著 N 和 x 的function,這個function就是給了N 和 x之間的關係
我們的做法是利用微分,找出 "N對於時間的變率" 和 "x對於時間的變率", 分別為dN/dt和dx/dt

ii) number of vehicles increses by 2000 per year 可理解為 車輛的數量相對於時間的變率為2000 (per year), dx/dt為2000,dx/dt的值

是不變的
rate of increase in the number of traffic accidents 可理解為 車禍數量相對於時間的變率, dN/dt

dN/dt和dx/dt的關係已經在part i) 計出了, 我們只要把題目所有的資料代入,便可計出答案:

哇~十分詳細的解說！！！

我現在理解到的是：

只要把連繫著 N 和 x 的function d一次，

再乘以dx/dt就可以了，暫時無需理會dx/dt的數值，對吧？

而之後dx/dt就會有一個實質的數值，再代入就可以了~

明天再研究這篇解說！！！
