a) Why is it suitable to use mercury in a liquid-in-glass thermometer?

b) The mercury-in-glass thermometer is put in melting ice and the length of the mercury column is 3.6cm. The cross sectional area of the glass tube is 0.01mm^2. What is the length of the mercury column when the thermometer is put into boiling water? (Hint: You may find out the change in volume before calculating the length of the column.)

**Volume of the mercury when 0 C (melting ice) = 0.0735 cm^3
    Volume of the mercury when 100 C (boiling water) = 0.0749 cm^3

Thank you, I am kind of in a hurry.
Thx

[題外]如果無誤應該是Heat的課題
這個在大部份學校應該都會作為F.3PHY的課程..[/題外]
囧... 大部份的東東忘了.. 我試下作答吧.= = 但大部份都未必正確..
a)
- It can quickly respond to the measuring temperature.
- It can measure a high temperature up to 357degree C.
b)
學校好似未試過做類似題型..
但係我試下啦...
Difference between the volume of mercury when 100C and 0C
=0.0749-0.0735 =0.0014cm^3
Let x cm be the height increased when changing in volume.
x(0.0001)=0.0014
x=14
Therefore, the height increases 14cm.
Then,
the length of the mercury column when the thermometer is put into boiling water
=14+3.6=17.6cm

不 這是叫temperature的課題 第2課才是heat
