.....Sucess requires hard work, luck and a good personal network.

1. The author holds the belief that those who are sucessful are lucky. True/False/Not given
2. The author believes that sucess is impossible without friends.         True/False/Not given

I can hardly distinguish between False and Not given....

Let me guess....""

1.True
2.Not given

What I understand is...
Not given means you can't find anything like this in the passage/sentence,
False means the meaning of it is wrong in the passage. Take the above sentence as an example. The wrong answer may like this" Lucky is useless in a sucessful work."

Indeed, both of them are false.
I know the answers already, but I just want to know how  u would account for these.
Originally, my answer were 1.False 2.Not given
I thought 1 was false because it was incomplete (excluding good personal network and hard work) and the word 'lucky' was too extreme.
However, I was not justified. It was just a matter concerning intuition
Regarding 2, I have no ideas at all

But, i precisely believe that there would not be such kind of questions in the real ce.
These 2 questions were just created by my teacher.
It seemed that there are no perfect answers.

I don't think they all are false at all...

I have no comment on the first one, your teacher may right.
However, the second one is talk about the other side of this sentence,
but the sentence seems didn't talk about the impossibility of this sentence,
I don't think we can analyse it deeply and get it is wrong as the conclusion...

Require =/= must

My English teacher always mentions this before the due dates of the assignments~
you are required to hand in your work, but it doesn't mean you can't choose not to hand it in.

Be careful of the words that are related to generalization.

Originally, my answer were 1.False 2.Not given

"Personal network" is a synonym of "friend", although the former one sounds a bit awkward.
