標題: Apostrophe s ('s) 的問題 [打印本頁] 作者: anthony 時間: 9/2/2006 01:11 PM 標題: Apostrophe s ('s) 的問題 請問當一些以 s 字母結尾的英文名字如要加上 apostrophe s 變成 possessive ﹙所有格﹚,以下哪一個寫法才正確? 1‧This is James' pen. 2‧This is James's pen.
其實以上兩個寫法我都在書本上見過,但不知道哪個才對。還有,當要讀這一類的字時,應該怎樣發音?作者: zubat 時間: 9/2/2006 07:14 PM 1 is already correct. I am not sure whether 2 is correct, but I think it is also acceptable.
When you pronounce 1, you just need to pronounce like "James". When you pronounce 2, you should pronounce like "James'es"作者: 夢幻蔚藍 時間: 27/2/2006 02:35 AM 1 is already correct. I am not sure whether 2 is correct, but I think it is also acceptable.
<<No... Obviously, the first one is wrong.. the second one is correct instead...
1. Normally.."'s" is usually combined withsingleunity.. For example... Mother'slove... Father'scompany
2. Except thepronouns.. For example :Hispen... nothe'spen... (The occasion only includes the subject followed by anoun.. not anadjective.. The wrong phrase as well....)
3. Forpluralunity... we just put "'" behind them... For example : My friends'meeting... The dogs'house...
4. But, except a special wordmeaning plural already.. put "'s" behind them.. For example : The men'stoliet... (The male toliet ismore prefered...) The police women'schanging room....
5. Sometimes a word ended with "es", but it doesn't act as asingle.... Compare with the rule ofnumber three.... For example : Families'reunions (plural).... Family'sreunion (single)... (Family reunion is common... unless the object which'sspecificly described..) But remember not to mix up with the followings :
glass's(single) ; glasses'(plural)
In conclusion... your example belongs to the rule ofnumber one...
